The concept for this design was that most everyone was dressed based on their personality so that the overall look was without a specific time period. The two main exceptions were April, who wore an airline stewardess inspired outfit, and Amy, who at one point in the show is a bride.
In this scene you can see all of the costumes together for the first time.
During this song, you get a sense of how different each of Bobby's girlfriends are from their costumes.
There was little time between scenes for characters to change costumes, so instead overcoats worn over the characters costumes. One reason overcoats were chosen was because the play states that is is raining outside during this song.
